The sword has long been a part of the formal wear for diplomats from around the world. Unlike a sword used for military purposes, the diplomat did not have any regulations on the type or sword he may carry, so it was quite common to find a wide range of sword varieties on these ambassadors. The sword of this period also had slight variations within this timeframe; including a model that had a blade that is not blued, as both the other examples are. The grips of this later creation are also decorated differently, as is the pommel. The impressive etched eagle and star emblem is missing from this sword, and was replaced with less spectacular floral and wreath work.
