今天来看看美国的植树节吧


Arbor Day - April 30th (in most American states)

      ARBOR Day is a holiday about trees.

        The idea for Arbor (which means tree) Day came from Nebraska, USA. J. Sterling Morton, editor of Nebraska’s first newspaper, spread his enthusiasm (热情) for trees to his audience. People loved his idea. In 1872 , Morton proposed a tree-planting holiday to be called “Arbor Day”. The date was set for April 10, 1872. Prizes were offered to counties and individuals for planting properly the largest number of trees on that day. It was estimated that more than one million trees were planted in Nebraska on the first Arbor Day. J. Sterling Morton was proud of the success and said,“Other holidays reposeupon the past. Arbor Day proposes for the future (其他节缅怀过去，植树节计划未来).”

     In 1885, Arbor Day was named a legal holiday in Nebraska. Other states followed and most of them set the date for April 30.
