High Risk for ID Card Information Spread

As the registation information of Spoken Chinese Test (Putonghua Shuiping Ceshi) should be confirmed by each student or teacher in order to make sure with out mistake in Zhejiang University, an Excel file (xls) was available for download from its Humanities College web site. Anyone who can access the Internet can download this file without any authentication and get the full access to the document. It appears that the college hasn't noticed that this would cause serious problem if the information was spread out.

In this 900KB or more Excel file, student or teacher's ture name and their personal informaton such as sex, birthday, college was listed. While the most important information, their ID card numbers, was also listed! In China, citizen's ID card number was made up by 13 digital numbers currently for wide authentication. The numbers was not encrypted, so the holder's birthday can be read out directly. Also further, in addtional database check up, the holder's other key information such the original birth place, sex can also been verified! With this key information, the holder's identity can be rapped easily in some case. So it is not a good idea and even very danger to let others know you ID card number.

However, now this file containing more than 2000 students or teachers' ID card numbers has been spread out. All the students or teachers with their information storaged in this file would be in danger! We hope the Humanities College can notice the importance of this would-be accident and carry out some make up security policy as soon as possible.
