Pillar是指“柱子”或“横梁”，有“有支持着”的意思，而 Pillar of society 中的 Pillar 含有“支柱”的意思，整句短语的意思是“社会支柱/栋梁”，是说一些对社会有贡献的人，可以想象到一个社会没有了支柱，便会崩溃。
