Pillar是指“柱子”或“横梁”，有“有支持着”的意思，而 Pillar of society 中的 Pillar 含有“支柱”的意思，整句短语的意思是“社会支柱/栋梁”，是说一些对社会有贡献的人，可以想象到一个社会没有了支柱，便会崩溃。
故此，Pillar of society 对我们的社会是很重要的。先来看下面的例句：We must nurture the children well because they are the pillars of society in future.孩子是社会未来之栋梁，我们必须好好培养他们成长。
