相关塔罗牌知识塔罗牌流行于欧美，共有22张主牌及56张副牌共78张。在西方国家，塔罗牌的主牌经常被用来占卜。56张副牌分为4个花色，分别是剑、杯、圆盘（货币）、棍棒（权杖），每个花色有14张牌，它们是1～10十张小牌，侍卫、仆人、皇后、皇帝四张大牌。现代扑克就是由塔罗牌的副牌演变而来，黑桃就是剑，红心是杯，方块是货币，梅花是棍棒。
塔罗西洋纸牌的由来和纸牌本身一样，充满了神秘和不同的说法。有说来口埃及、古罗马、希伯来、波斯、印度，甚至也有说来自中国。
「TAROT」塔罗西洋纸牌的发展可能非常久远，而现代所知最早的塔罗纸牌约出现在十四世纪末、十五世纪初的意大利。 由于意大利纸牌游戏叫作，与「TAROT」塔罗的发音近似，且意大利纸牌只有二十二张，与塔罗纸牌的二十二张主牌相似；同时，意大利诗歌中歌颂的爱情、胜利、慈爱、死亡、名誉、命运和未来等含意，与塔罗纸牌亦类似，因此搭罗纸牌来自意大利的说法获得许多人的赞同。
十五世纪中期，意大利、法国、德国和比利时即已开始风行塔罗纸牌。
最早的塔罗牌都是由宫廷的画家手绘的，这些绘制的牌充分反映了早期文艺复兴时代的风貌。 从人物的穿著、角色、建筑物、家具、器皿等，不但反映当时的贵族生活，也代表了他们的宗教信仰和心灵思想。
